Objectives
2.1 To obtain detailed knowledge of key site characteristics that
control GHG fluxes.
2.2 To provide the basic data for evaluation and parameterization
of bottom-up models for ecosystem carbon fluxes.
2.3 To derive seasonal budgets of soil CO2, N2O and CH4 fluxes from
intensive studied sites and from short campaigns in sites of
representative ecosystems where no intense measurements are carried out.
2.4 To collect basic eco-physiological information, such as on
stomatal conductance and leaf photosynthetic capacity, for
representative plant species from intensive studied sites.
|
Description of work
Task 2.1 Site characterization and development of a methodological
manual (in order to ensure comparability of the data).
Task 2.2 Process analysis by field measurements.
|
Deliverables
2.1 A manual of standardised methods for site parameterisation,
suitable for application in Africa (Month 6).
2.2 Preliminary comparison of traditional GC flux measurements
with measurements by portable fotoacustic multigas-analyser (Month 6).
2.3 A protocol for the gas flux measurements by portable
fotoacustic multigas-analyser (Month 6).
2.4 Review of currently available models for N2O and CH4
production and consumption (Month 6).
2.5 Integrated data-set of additional parameters according
to the Table WP2.2. (Month 24).
2.6 Seasonal budgets of N2O and CH4 fluxes from intensive
studied sites (Month 24).
2.7 Process analysis at strategic sites, as described in
the Table WP2.3. (Month 30).
|
Milestones and expected result
2.1 Methodological manual in order to ensure comparability of
the basic site characterization (Month 6).
2.2 Acquisition of the portable instrumentation: Fotoacustic
Multigas Analyser and intercalibration with other gas measuring
techniques (gas chromatography), construction of accumulation
chambers and connection to the fotoacustic analyser (Month 8).
2.3 Intensive seasonal measurements campaigns of soil CO2,
N2O and CH4 fluxes in the intensive study sites (Month 12).
2.4 Intensive seasonal measurement campaigns of leaf
photosynthetic capacity, stomatal conductance and xylem water
potential (Month 14).
2.5 Publication of integrated site comparison (Month 24).
2.6 Publications on process analyses (Month 34).
